Comme à l’accoutumée, Mike Leigh nous parle de poursuite du bonheur et de solitude, à travers la vie de tous les jours de la classe moyenne britannique qu’il filme depuis les années 70. Mais ici il est aussi question de partage, solidarité et limite dans le don de soi.
Un concentré d’humanité et d’humour entre une cuisine et un jardin potager.

Family, friendship. Love and comfort. Joy and sadness. Hope and despair. Birth. Death. Time passes……. In his inimitable style, Mike Leigh films, as he has done since the 1970’s, the everyday life of the middle class, their loneliness and their search for happiness. Another Year is about sharing, solidarity and the limits of what one can give. A mixture of humanity and humour between kitchen and allotment.

Animés par des envies de grandeur, quatre garçons d’une ville industrielle du nord de l’Angleterre cultivent des rêves insensés. Ils veulent devenir une arme du Djihad, marquer leur époque et changer le monde.
Ils décident de monter le coup décisif qui fera parler d’eux et de leur cause. Problème : il leur manque le mode d’emploi. Après des mois de répétitions, d’entraînement raté en Afghanistan et de mises au point, ils partent pour la capitale la taille ceinte d’explosifs. Le Marathon de Londres approche et sera l’occasion de montrer de quoi ils sont capables, mais pour cette bande de Pieds Nickelés, ce n’est pas gagné !

Driven by ambition to make something of themselves, four working class lads from the North of England set out to realize theirs dreams – to make their mark, carry on the holy war and change the world. They plan a once and for all strike that will put them and their cause in the spotlight ; except for one thing : they have no idea how to carry out their plan. Nevertheless, after months of practice and preparations, including a futile training visit to Afghanistan, they set off for the capital with belts weighed down with explosives. It’s Marathon time in London, an ideal occasion to show what they’re capable of. But as far as the Four Stooges are concerned, it’s not that simple. And nor is it for us…making fun of terrorism is no laughing matter.

John s’évade à travers l’univers naissant du Rock n’Roll où son génie musical va s’épanouir aux côtés de son complice, un certain Paul McCartney.
C’est le premier film de l’artiste conceptuelle Sam Taylor Wood, connue en Angleterre pour sa vidéo de plusieurs heures sur David Beckham endormi.

John is torn between two women, Mimi, his aunt, unyielding and strict and Julia, his carefree mother. It is the beginnings of Rock ’n Roll in the UK that give him the chance to escape and develop his musical genius alongside his best friend, a certain Paul McCartney. First film by the conceptual artist Sam Taylor Wood well known in England for her ‘endless’ video of a sleeping David Beckham.

Elles étaient 187 et travaillaient chez Ford à Dagenham, une usine de 40.000 ouvriers à l’est de Londres. Elles cousaient des sièges de voiture - un travail qualifié – mais touchaient 15% de moins qu’un ouvrier non-qualifié. Un jour de 1968, elles se sont mises en grève et ont fini par bloquer la chaîne de production, au grand désarroi des syndicats et des dirigeants anglais et américains. Même le gouvernement de Harold Wilson en a été ébranlé. Une histoire vraie dont la fin reste à découvrir…
L’actrice principale Sally Hawkins avait été très remarquée dans le film de Mike Leigh « Be Happy » projeté récemment à Montesquieu.

MADE IN DAGENHAM
In the 1960’s over 40,000 people were employed at the Ford car factory in Dagenham in the East of London. Among them 187 women whose job was to sew the car seats – a job classified as skilled but paid 15% less than that of an unskilled male worker. One day in 1968, the women went on strike long enough to stop the whole assembly line, much to the dismay of the union leaders and the British and American managers. The repercussions of their action went as far as to shake the government of Harold Wilson. The rest of this true story is for you to discover…….
The lead actress, Sally Hawkins, had the starring role in the film Happy Go Lucky recently shown in Montesquieu.
